Ramos Research Institute Welcomes Distinguished Scholars to the Scholar’s Council

 

ITHACA, NEW YORK – January 27, 2025 — The Ramos Research Institute (RRI) is proud to announce the appointment of two esteemed scholars, Dr. Derek Cabrera and Dr. Laura Cabrera, to its Scholar’s Council (formerly the Board of Scholars). This marks an exciting milestone in the Institute’s commitment to advancing innovative research and fostering thought leadership in the fields of policy and systems thinking.


Dr. Derek Cabrera, a globally recognized systems theorist and cognitive scientist, brings decades of expertise in complexity science and leadership development. He serves as Faculty Director for the Graduate Certification Program in Systems Thinking, Modeling, and Leadership (STML) at Cornell University. Dr. Cabrera is renowned for his groundbreaking contributions, including the discovery of cognitive universals (DSRP Theory) and organizational universals (VMCL Theory). His work has been featured in academic journals, trade publications, and popular media, and he is the co-host of the widely acclaimed Cabrera Lab Podcast.


Dr. Laura Cabrera, an expert in policy analysis and applied systems thinking, is Program Director for Cornell University’s Graduate Certification Program in Systems Thinking, Modeling, and Leadership. Her career spans over 25 years of teaching and research at Cornell, where she has led numerous initiatives, including the USDA-funded ThinkWater program and evaluations for nationwide STEM education. She specializes in translating cutting-edge research into practical applications across sectors, from education to public policy.

Both scholars have authored multiple influential books, including the award-winning Systems Thinking Made Simple and Thinking at Every Desk: Four Simple Skills to Transform Your Classroom. Their work has been instrumental in shaping best practices in education, leadership, and organizational development.


The addition of Drs. Derek and Laura Cabrera to the Scholar’s Council underscores RRI’s dedication to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and promoting excellence in public policy research.
